The race starts in a quite cul-de-sac opposite Painswick Rugby Club. Here the route drops via a private road into the Valley, and follows the Painswick Stream for about 1/2 mile before crossing over the weir and heading up a private lane to Gyde’s Farm where the ascent intensity starts to increase.
After 1/2mile a short stint on Wick Street leads into the rocky track onto Juniper Hill to Well Farm, one of the 2 major climbs in this event. Now on top of the hill breathtaking, so to speak, views of Painswick and surrounding valleys can be enjoyed. For the next 1 1/4 miles the flat, soft, muddy terrain of Frith Woods is followed, before a long descent into the Painswick Valley is commenced.Once reached a short but challenging road climb is ahead, in order to reach the famous Painswick Church with 99 Yew trees.
Finally, a short descent back towards the Rugby Club and the finishing line beckons
